I’d do a rough prototype, they would do a beautiful image of how it really ought to look, and after a bit of back and forth we’d have a lovely product. I was used to working with graphic designers. I should explain that my background was at a BBC spinoff called “MMC”, coding Mac multimedia software for CD-ROMs like “3D Atlas” and Douglas Adams’ “Last Chance to See”. I was supposed to go work for Apple in Cupertino, but the Apple recruiter screwed up my offer paperwork, and Microsoft snapped me up. In the summer of 1998 I moved from London to San Jose, California to write code for Mac IE 5 at Microsoft. New Look : How I set the look of Mac IE 5, possibly kickstarted Aqua (sorry), and invented translucent blurred windows, in the 1990s. This history has been compiled by Maf Vosburgh, the developer who conceived and executed the implementation of this major UI redesign: I also want to share a detailed history of MacIE 5’s bold UI design, dubbed “New Look” internally. Here are some anecdotes and thoughts from an insider’s perspective. This was both the most important release of Internet Explorer for the Mac, and the last release. I’ve just posted a Twitter thread that goes into some details bout the events leading up to and just after the unveiling of MacIE 5 by Steve Jobs:ġ/ Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the introduction of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 5 for Mac. Rather I want to focus on the inside story of how and why it was developed, and some of the people and personalities that shaped it’s success and eventual demise. I don’t want to delve into the details of what made MacIE 5 special because my friend Tantek Çelik has already documented that on his blog. I was 22 years old and I was thrown into the deep end of the browser wars, the Microsoft anti-trust trial, and the love/hate relationship between Microsoft and Apple. This anniversary is also significant for me as MacIE 5 was first product I worked on when I started working at Microsoft in summer of 1999. ![]() It was also the first large third-party Mac application to ship for Mac OS X, and the first mainstream web browser to embrace standards compliant web content. By the early 15th century the principal herald (king of arms) had become a commissioner for nobilitas minor (“minor nobility”), a term now embracing all the nobility ranking below the peerage and including baronets, Scottish barons, lairds, knights, esquires, and gentlemen. In the late 14th century the authority of the heralds was expanded. In the 14th century heralds began to serve nobles on a more permanent basis and became associated with their names and houses. To carry out these duties it was essential that the herald be familiar with the family derivation and be able to recognize the arms of local nobles on sight. In the 12th century heralds formally announced and conducted tournaments, including the proclamation of each joust and the name of each combatant. Herald, originally, an officer in medieval Europe charged with carrying messages to and from the commanders of opposing armies in modern times, a professional authority on armorial history and genealogy. The SuperStar Speaker is compromised of a hard plastic material and is outfitted with a removable rubber silicone casing on the outside. Is the Superstar your savior for music? Style Its slim size is catered to be thrown anywhere from your backpack to even in your pocket and its set to pack a punch of sound in such a small device. Monster has recently come out with the “Superstar” which is supposed to be extremely lightweight and compact to fit your portable needs. Now when taking these out I love to throw one in my bag but some of them are too big or cumbersome for carrying around. I love using them mostly when I’m in the house cleaning up or cooking or when I’m hanging with a bunch of friends and we just want to rock out. Some we have seen look like cassette tapes while others you are able to clip on to your bag and rock out to them accordingly. And with up to 12 hours of battery life, the ability to charge a smartphone and a cool LED light-show effect, it will certainly be a crowd-pleaser.It’s definitely been an attack of the bluetooth speakers with them coming in all shapes and sizes to cater to a consumers. The Bluetooth speaker pumps out some booming tunes that can be heard in a relatively large outdoor space, and it has a full sound profile. In the right setting, the Monster Superstar RaveBox can be a great addition to your party. However, on multiple occasions, I experienced minor dropouts or interference if my phone was in my pocket or I walked into an adjoining room. It has the typical 33-foot range you'd expect from a Bluetooth device. Once paired with a device, the RaveBox reconnects quickly each time it's turned on. While streaming music to the boom box, you can charge your phone or tablet by plugging it into the RaveBox's rear panel. During a Memorial Day weekend party, we had the RaveBox cranked up to nearly max volume with the light show spinning constantly, and after 5 or 6 hours, the device still had two of four indicators of power left. Monster claims that the RaveBox has a 12-hour battery life, even at higher volumes with the bass blasting. For example, this boom box screams karaoke, yet Monster did not add a microphone. What's MissingĪlthough the RaveBox has shiny lights, booming bass and overall good sound, its omission of some features means it's more of a shindig than a full-blown party. However, it also sounds good when stood up on the end so that the light show can shine upward onto the ceiling. ![]() While using the RaveBox, I noticed that it does a good job of directing sound upward when placed on the floor. When I took the RaveBox to the roof and switched to Outdoor mode, I didn't lose any of the detail, particularly around the highs. The highs were clean and airy, filling my room with balanced audio. When I switched over to The Chainsmokers "Don't Let Me Down," I was impressed by the details, such as the breathiness of the vocalists and the clean bongos in the background. ![]() If you do allow the GPS Unit to recalculate the route it may find a short cut that it thinks is a faster route or send you on a narrow trail. ![]() This will then let you use the route planned by your Basecamp edit. It could be an useful addition if you have time to set it up for a rally / ride. So in conclusion i need to continue to experiment with it more. when importing data into google maps i have struggled but have managed to import various data from differing sources onto the same map this make changing icons in groups possible the only trouble is the phone doesn't see it for some reason so all the icons appear the same. i cant get a satellite view of the map on my phone but can on the laptop so has proved to be good for route planning with the laptop and pretty much replaced tyre in that respect. i can store routes on the system and access them but have so far only achieved a to b and not sure if this would be any use as i have a route stored in my sat nav so have not pursed that possibility. what it doesn't seem to do is transfer any fancy coloured icons between my laptop and phone i have not yet been able to plan a route using the phone to more than 1 location. So what will it do and not do, so far i've discovered if i load the data into my maps and if at the side of the road i require some re-planning i can access this map easily it is easier to see the bigger picture of controls etc than the sat nav and will quickly give data for that control and time and distance to it and plan the route. ![]() So Google maps after some experimentation mainly using the method as quoted above i found i could import just about any data into google maps GPX, KML, excel and export KML, once i've got the file out i can easily convert it into any data format that is convenient. if i have a signal google maps shows my location i can access the internet when i have a signalģ. being perfectly usable as a phone i was a little bit cheesed off that that technology was forcing an upgrade on me for no apparent reason other than some company needs to see an increase in profits every single year. I've had a play with google maps over the winter mainly because some nice fellow showed me a GPX reader on his mobile phone in Sweden this looked like a good asset to have since then i've failed miserably to get an app with a GPX reader that will work on my phone apparently its to old. ![]() As books usually cost $100 - $300 you have to make sure you have those amounts of money available, or the sales men won't even bother calling you.ġ) The are no items with the red "NEW" banner in the corner in the shopĢ) You have managed to unlock all items, such as the very last ones - the garden gnome, the water fountain and the angel statue It's generally a better idea to have a wide range of items (even decorations), flowers and vegetables in your garden, than spending all your money on growing large amounts of a few types of crops.Īnother important factor is to take all opportunities to buy books. If we are buying a $75 pasture and four cows, 4 x $150 = $600. Each cow costs $150, and the more you can afford the better. The game was well advertised and had exceptional sales, more than any previous title. If the game did not sell enough units in Japan alone, the franchise would be permanently shelved. Outlier research has a long history and traditionally focused on techniques for rejecting or accommodating the extreme cases that hamper statistical inference. Anomaly detection (AD) is the process of analyzing the data to identify these unusual occurrences. Identifying them can be a difficult task due to the many shapes and sizes they come in, as illustrated in Fig. Although anomalies can form a noise factor hindering the data analysis, they may also constitute the actual signals that one is looking for. Anomalies are assumed to be both rare and different, and pertain to a wide variety of phenomena, which include static entities and time-related events, single (atomic) cases and grouped (aggregated) cases, as well as desired and undesired observations. Such occurrences are often also referred to as outliers, novelties, deviants or discords. The term anomalies in this context refers to cases, or groups of cases, that are in some way unusual and deviate from some notion of normality. ![]() These large collections of data are mined in both academia and practice, with the aim of identifying patterns as well as peculiarities. Owing to the massive data collection taking place in the current era and the imperfect measurement systems used for this, anomalous observations can thus be expected to be amply present in our datasets. Although rare by definition, such strange and unusual occurrences can actually also said to be relatively abundant due to the huge amount of objects and interactions in the world. The physical and social world is known to bring about abnormal and bizarre phenomena that are seemingly hard to explain. The typology facilitates the evaluation of the functional capabilities of anomaly detection algorithms, contributes to explainable data science, and provides insights into relevant topics such as local versus global anomalies. These fundamental and data-centric dimensions naturally yield 3 broad groups, 9 basic types, and 63 subtypes of anomalies. To concretely define the concept of the anomaly and its different manifestations, the typology employs five dimensions: data type, cardinality of relationship, anomaly level, data structure, and data distribution. By means of an extensive literature review this study therefore offers the first theoretically principled and domain-independent typology of data anomalies and presents a full overview of anomaly types and subtypes. Moreover, despite some 250 years of publications on the topic, no comprehensive and concrete overviews of the different types of anomalies have hitherto been published. The concept of the anomaly is typically ill defined and perceived as vague and domain-dependent. ![]() Anomalies are occurrences in a dataset that are in some way unusual and do not fit the general patterns. ![]() You can choose your own adventure with color and they're also cheap to replace, ergonomic and very effective.” Note you do have to wash these by hand.įor bartenders, Kuhn Rikon’s Y ( view at Amazon) peeler checks off a lot of boxes with an incredibly sharp blade and an affordable price tag. “They are the best citrus peelers, without question.
